Bespoke Gorilla Tours in Rwanda – Meet with the Mostly wanted Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park

Welcome to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda famously known for the some of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world.

The Park has 10 habituated gorilla families which we were able to view them however before going in for the activity we arrived very early in the Park at 07:00am for the briefing of the activities which are done in the Park.

For a gorilla safari, we were allowed to be 8 individuals per group or Gorilla family and we were also told to maintain maximum silence and stay calm while in the Jungle tracking the gorillas.

Before tracking them, we were told that we should be physically fit because the activity is so challenging and that we should not be sick because the primates catch human diseases thus being the main reason as to why we were told to stand at least 8 meters from the gorillas while viewing them.

We were not allowed to use the flashlight cameras while taking photos in the Park and we were still told not to over stay with the gorillas for so long exceeding 1 hour which is the recommended time to stay with the primates.

We were also able to view the bird species in the Park plus hiking of the Virunga Mountains which include Sabyinyo, Muhabura, Gahinga, Bisoke and the Karisimbi. We hiked the Bisoke Mountain which was a one day hike.

Due to the Park’s topography and its Mountainous areas, we took photos of various creatures in the Park and with all that our tour was absolutely a memorable one which we can’t ever forget.

We also visited the caves in the Park plus the Dian Fossey tomb and the various Lakes which are near to the Park and from there we got involved in boat cruises and viewing of crocodiles, hippos and the aquatic birds.

Every activity we performed while in the Park, we were returning back to our lodge and waited for the following morning for another activity.

We lived in Virunga lodge though the Park has other lodges such as Mountain gorilla view lodge, Sabyinyo silver back lodges and others.

We ended our tour to Nyungwe Forest National Park where we viewed a variety of primates more so the chimpanzees.

In Nyungwe we lived in Nyungwe Top View Lodge though the Park has other lodges such as One and Only Nyungwe House the best luxury and Gisakura Guest House the budget but with good services.

In the lodge we lived in we got free WI-FI and absolutely the lodge is among those with the best accommodation in Rwanda. We viewed a number of mammals, reptiles, birds and primates.

Some of the primates were the chimpanzees which we started tracking in the morning at around 08:00am but before going in for the activity, we were first briefed since we accessed in the Park earlier.

Unlike gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park, for the chimpanzee tracking we were allowed only twelve individuals per tracking group and for the chimpanzees there is no time limit for staying with the primates because they are not like gorillas which are found seated.

Chimpanzees are always seen jumping from tree to tree and since they are too friendly to humans, they are not difficult to explore as long as you find them.

We were told that the chimpanzees have 98.7% of a human DNA and we were shown some of the features we relate with the chimpanzees.

Using our good cameras with no flashlight32, we took many photos of these primates however other primates in Park include the L’Hoest monkeys and the golden monkeys plus many others.

Other animals in the Park include chameleon, geckos, frogs, Toads plus the mammals which are almost 85 species. On the borders of the Park, we hiked the Bigugu Mountain thus obtaining a great and enjoyful tour in this Park too.

Our tour was by no doubt a memorable due to the fact that we used the best tour company and also the awesome and beautiful Parks in Rwanda which protect a variety of wildlife and bird life.

NB: We purchased a gorilla permit in Rwanda at US$ 1500 and a chimpanzee permit at US$ 90 and advance booking with the tour company is always essential to any visitor who would like to make it to Rwanda and this helps for the proper planning of your tour earlier and to avoid inconveniences because Eco tours Rwanda serves various clients thus you need to book earlier before your tour.
