Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda has four sectors for gorilla trekking tour that’s to say Buhoma, Nkuringo, Ruhija and Rushaga. Each sector has different difficulty levels and gorilla families. The easiest sector to trek is Buhoma sector.
BUHOMA SECTOR. Buhoma is found on the forest’s lowest altitude and its a less demanding area to carry out the activity. It has got 4 habituated families of gorillas living with in the area and these include; Mubare group, Rushegura family, Habinyanja group. Occasionally these groups have been said to visit the different accommodation facilities in the area. The other tourist activities to carry out include; village walks, mountain bike rides and the guided nature hikes.
Buhoma Sector being a backbone of gorilla trekking experience and the most visited sector by mountain gorilla lovers in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, it has a variety of nice Lodging accommodation facilities providing international standard services ranging from luxury to budget lodging options where guests can comfortably stay on their gorilla tour to Buhoma sector in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.

RUSHAGA SECTOR. Rushaga is located in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This is a home of 5 gorilla families which are best for Gorilla trekking. Rushaga is one of the sectors where one can go for gorilla habituation with a number of families including Bweza, Busingye, Nshongi, Kahungye and Mishaya.
Rushaga offers gorilla habituation and there is other two families that are undergoing habituation including Bikyingi and Bushaho and these are all going through training.
Rushaga sector can be accessible from Kigali, Rwanda via the Kyanika border post. The drive time from Kigali to Rushaga is about 4-5hrs. Rushaga is also accessible through the nearby Kisoro airport. Aero Link provides daily flights from Entebbe airport to Kisoro airport.
Rushaga is close to the Nkuringo sector, so one can stay a night in the Rushaga area and then trek gorillas in Nkuringo sector.
Rushaga offers cultural visits to Batwa communities, walks and bird watching activities. Rushaga has a number of lodges such as Bwindi jungle lodge, Gorilla safari camp, chameleon hill lodge, Gorilla haven lodge and many more. The lodges are luxury, midrange and budget accommodation services to travelers at affordable cost. There is accessibility to Lake Mutanda with great opportunity for travelers to do boat cruise.
NKURINGO SECTOR. The Nkuringo sector is located in the southern part of the park. It is a home to the famous Nkuringo family known for being playful due to the presence of many juveniles. The Nkuringo sector offers views of the Virunga volcanoes.
This area is recommended for young and energetic travelers because the Nkuringo gorilla family lives at higher elevations hence making trekking more challenging. The Bushaho gorilla family sometimes cross into the Nkuringo sector from Rushaga.
RUHIJA SECTOR. Ruhija sector is located in Eastern part of Bwindi Forest national park. The area is a habitat to Bitukura, Kyaguriro family, Oruzogo family, Ruhija and it stands 2,350 meters above the sea level, the coldest areas in Bwindi. Ruhija offers strenuous and adventurous hiking trail to Rwamunyonyi peak best not to miss out. While in Ruhija expect to meet other primates including elephants, monkeys and many more. The sector enjoys life changing encounter with critically endangered mountain gorillas.
