While planning to on Uganda tour and thinking of the suitable safari lodges to stay? Don’t look no further other than the Kyaninga Lodge is set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Kyaninga and the Rwenzori Mountains. All buildings are elevated on stilts, as are the walkways between them. The most imposing structure is the two – story lodge, which occupies the highest point of the hill.
The lounge contains well-cushioned seating around coffee tables, as well as a monumental double-sided open fireplace, open to the bar on the opposite side. There are also a few board games, and free Wi-Fi. The dining area is set with very elegant chairs and tables fashioned from mvule and elgon olive.
Stairs from this level take you to the upper story of the lodge, where you will find a few private seating areas boasting panoramic views. Descend into the grounds, and one of the first features you will encounter is the spacious swimming pool, complete with wooden decking and a submerged seat.
Descend farther, and you will pass through a number of terraces designed by Imogen Jenkins, including a kitchen garden and an orchard of fruit trees. Lower still, are a grass tennis court, a croquet lawn, where you may also play badminton and boules
The guest accommodation at Kyaninga Lodge is every inch as impressive as the main building, though constructed to a smaller scale. All nine cottages are linked to the lodge along a high wooden walkway, four on either side of the two – story structure. Seven sleep a maximum of two persons, and two are designed for families.
Within each category, there is a bedroom with a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables adorned with flowers, a storage trunk, and a seating area with comfy chairs and a table. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins made from marble, a glass-walled shower, and a freestanding claw-footed bathtub.
Solar power provides hot water as well as lighting, and sliding doors from the living area lead onto a private deck that is ideal for sitting and sipping tea or something stronger while marveling at the lake and mountain views! The family cottages have a mezzanine level, offering a fun sleeping space for the kids.
The Mahogany Springs is located just a 2-minute drive or 5–10-minute walk away from the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park entrance, where you will start your trek to see gorillas.
The communal building is a classic timber, stone, and thatch structure, containing an open-plan lounge, restaurant, and bar. The lounge features plenty of comfortable seating around coffee tables, as well as a super – cozy double-sided fireplace.
In the restaurant, separate tables are flanked by smart upright chairs and pleasantly decorated with local fabrics and flowers. The bar is well stocked, and all areas flow out on to a terrace for al fresco dining and marveling at the spectacular scenery!
Mahogany Springs has a shop too, where you can purchase craft items, clothing, and souvenirs. And the gorgeous gardens include a fire-pit area, perfect for morning and evening gatherings when guests tuck in to a few drinks and share stories of the day’s activities!
The guest accommodation at Mahogany Springs comes in three categories – Superior Suite, Honeymoon Suite, and Family Suite (also known as Presidential Suite!). All benefit from mosquito nets, power sockets, a dressing table or desk, well-appointed en-suite facilities, and a private terrace.
The Superior Suite option can be a twin, a double, or a triple. All options are spacious, and a highlight is the open terracotta shower! The Honeymoon Suite is similar in style to the Superior Suite, but newlyweds enjoy use of a bigger bed and a bathtub as well as the shower.
And the Family or Presidential Suite is large enough to sleep a maximum of four persons, boasting two bedrooms, two en-suite bathrooms, a separate lounge area, and a terrace with breath-taking River and forest views.
